What is a transfer maid?

A transfer maid is a foreign domestic worker who is already working in Singapore and wants to change employers. Because she is already in the country, she can usually start sooner than a new helper and already understands Singapore households, HDB living and local food.

Transfer helpers need their current employer’s agreement to transfer and a new Work Permit under your name. Ask the agency why she is leaving her current employer and how long she has worked there.

Checklist before you hire a transfer maid

• Confirm her current contract end date and release arrangements.
• Ask about her experience with infants, elderly care or cooking in Singapore.
• Check the number of previous Singapore employers in the employment history.
• Agree on salary, rest days and loan or placement fee arrangements in writing.
